The good news? Lake Travis is looking incredible, and summer is in full swing!

Lake Travis Is Full Again

For the first time since 2019, Lake Travis has reached full conservation pool thanks to recent Hill Country rainfall. After several years of lower water levels, boaters are once again enjoying a full lake with easier access to coves, marinas, waterfront restaurants, and recreation areas.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to book a Lake Travis boat rental, this is one of the best summers we’ve seen in years.

Mansfield Dam Floodgates Are Open

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) recently began controlled floodgate releases at Mansfield Dam—the first floodgate operation since 2019. While seeing the gates open may sound unusual, it’s actually part of the lake’s normal flood-control system.

Lake Travis was specifically designed to capture stormwater during heavy rain events and gradually release it downstream through controlled operations. The Highland Lakes system is working exactly as intended.

Current Lake Levels

Lake Travis is considered “full” for water supply purposes at 681 feet above mean sea level. Following the recent rains, LCRA expects the lake to remain in the 685–686 foot range while managing water through Mansfield Dam.

For boaters, that means:

• More water throughout the lake
• Easier access to many marinas and coves
• Beautiful shoreline views that haven’t been seen in years

Is Lake Travis Open?

Yes! Lake Travis remains open for recreational boating in most areas.

However, there is one important exception. Travis County has temporarily restricted recreational use between mile markers 27 and 37 near Lago Vista because of localized flooding conditions. This restriction does not apply to the areas where Float On Boat Rentals operates.

Many people have also heard about waterway closures in Austin. Those closures apply to:

• Lake Austin
• Lady Bird Lake
• The Colorado River downstream

They do not apply to the main recreational areas of Lake Travis where Float On operates.
